While none of our resorts accept pets, service animals are allowed at ALL of our properties.

Service animals MUST be registered at the front desk at the time of check-in.

Pets are not allowed.  A fine of $500 will be assessed if a pet is brought into a unit.  Service animals are not considered pets when required to perform a specific duty for the owner, and must be registered at the front desk at check-in.  Emotional support animals however are considered pets and are not allowed at any time.

What is a service animal?

Under the ADA, a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person's disability. A service dog is not a pet. Service dogs can be trained to guide a person who is blind, pull a wheelchair, pick up dropped items, help a person walk, or remind a person with a mental illness to take medications. These are just a few examples.

Can I ask why the guest needs the service animal?

The only questions someone can legally ask are, “Is this a service dog for a disability?” and “What does the dog do for you?” Questions about the person’s disability are not allowed.

What if the dog is not well-behaved?

A service dog owner may be asked to remove a dog only if it is a direct threat to the health or safety of others or is out of control.

Does a service animal need a license or special identification?

No. Service dogs are NOT required to have any special papers or equipment, though some dogs may wear a vest or harness.

Are emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals considered service animals under the ADA?

No. These terms are used to describe animals that provide comfort just by being with a person. Because they have not been trained to perform a specific job or task, they do NOT qualify as service animals under the ADA and are not permitted at any of our resorts.

Can hotels assign designated rooms for guests with service animals out of consideration for other guests?

No. A guest with a disability who uses a service animal must be provided the same opportunity to reserve any available room at the hotel as other guests without disabilities. They may not be restricted to "pet-friendly" rooms.

Can hotels charge a cleaning fee for guests who have service animals?

No. Hotels are not permitted to charge guests for cleaning the hair or dander shed by a service animal. However, if a guest's service animal causes damage to a guest room, a hotel is permitted to charge the same fee for damages as charged to other guests.

Are gyms, fitness centers, hotels, or municipalities that have swimming pools required to allow a service animal in the pool with its handler?

No. The ADA does not override public health rules that prohibit dogs in swimming pools.  However, service animals must be allowed on the pool deck and in other areas where the public is allowed to go.
